Growing Pains

Henry made it through that awful nap and has officially gotten himself off the binky.  But not without some struggles.  Not only did he recently move from his crib to a bed, but he also lost the binky and is ready to start preschool.  It's a lot of growing up to do without a coping mechanism.  He is unusually whiny -- due both from a lack of a way to soothe himself and having trouble falling asleep.  We've had a number of unfortunate public meltdowns, but he's doing his best.  And that's all we can ask.  He wants more snuggles, but he also wants to be left alone to just be mad.  So we're trying to do both.  Henry starts school on Thursday and he is very excited about it.  VERY!  I think, even with the excitement, there will be some continued fallout from all this growing up at once.

My favorite Henry story of the week (maybe of his life).  When Craig tucked him in last night, Craig asked for a kiss and Henry gave one.  Then he started moving his head back and forth and back and forth and said MORE KISSES.  And Craig mistook this to mean he wanted to rub noses.  Henry said no, not eskimoes, a MOVIE kiss dad.  We'd just had movie night and watched The Music Man.  Craig leaned down to give him another kiss and Henry attempted to give Craig and long lingering movie kiss.  And then Craig died and said no no kiddo.  Boys and girls don't do movie kisses with anyone -- especially not their mommies and daddies.  Oh my goodness.

Sam is doing well.  He starts school on Wednesday and is extremely excited about it.  He asked me today if I thought he would get to do science experiments with poisons.  I told him it was unlikely.  But maybe they'd do some with baking soda.  And that seemed to cheer him up.  He is looking forward to getting to do the climbing wall in gym class, something forbidden to the kindergartners.  He is also pleased that the entrance he uses to get to his class is right next to the playground.  He would like me to drop him off as early as possible so that he can play first.  Honestly, he seemed almost disappointed when I told him Craig and I were walking him to the door on the first day.  Alas.  They grow up too fast.
