Our Week

This has been a long week.  Craig has had rehearsals every night for the ETD show that he's in that opens on Monday.  And I had a chemistry test and work and so on.  And both kids have been sick this week.  They are both, thankfully, on the mend.

Henry was first with an ear infection.  He was up all Sunday night crying and holding his ear and saying he had a belly ache in his ear.  He kept insisting that he just really needed to poop and then he would feel better.  Obviously, he could not poop out his ear infection, so it was a long night.  But thankfully, he got on meds as early as Monday afternoon.

Then Sam got a cold.  And a cough.  And came into my room on Wednesday saying he just didn't think he could go to school  He didn't have a fever, so I told him he should probably just suck it up and go.  (I am of the mind that if you are not running a fever, put on your big boy pants and get a move on.)  But then tears welled up in his eyes and he said "but mom, I just CAN'T.  I feel so bad that when I cough it's SQUEAKING!!"  So, I let him stay home and I'm glad I did because he was a mess all day.

He was back to himself by Thursday though, but the cough is still hanging on.

So, we haven't really got much to report in the way of interesting things because it's just been laying around on the couch and doing puzzles and reading books and squeaking coughs and pooping ears and no Craig to distract us.

OH!  I can tell you that Sam asked to see a picture of what the baby might look like now and I showed him one. And he was 100% creeped out by what he saw.  Especially the umbilical cord.  He was horrified that there was like some giant tube inside me connecting me to another person.  And I guess when you think about it that way, it is really frigging weird.  I told him that he too was once tethered to me by this cord.  I explained that they snipped it off when the baby was born.  And he looked even more upset.  (It doesn't hurt!  I told him) And then what's left is a belly button.

And at this point, his disgust turned to a mix of amazement and giggles as he examined his own belly button.

His final word on the issue: SO WEIRD. But really cool.

He is convinced that the baby is sucking her thumb (he is also convinced it is a girl) and gives my belly pats all the time and says Hi Baby and then pretends to be the baby crying back at him.  He tells me "wow your tummy is getting big Mom.  Do you think it will get bigger?" I tell him yes, it will that my stomach looks pretty normal actually.  And he just pats it and says "nope.  it's pretty big."  And then I cry.

Henry is not as interested, though he does often try to lift up my shirt to "see" the baby.  And he wants to know when it will come out so he can give it a kiss.
