current books: oh, the tag books. oh sweet glorious tag books. our whole family adores you. nina sent this special pen to him for christmas. and there are these special books that go along with it. he has 4 of them now. and you turn the pen on and touch it to any page on any of these books and it somehow knows exactly where you are at and does a myriad of things: reads the whole story through, reads a page at a time, reads word by word, has silly sounds or sayings for all the different parts of each illustration, has games you can play that help with reading comprehension on each of the pages. the more you play with the book, you earn rewards. so then you go hook your pen up to the computer and kind of unlock bonus games that further educate your child. they are amazing and sam will go lie in his bed for 15 minute stretches just playing with his tag books. in fact, when we talked about toy story 3 and he asked why andy had a hard time giving woody away, i said it was because woody was so special to him, had helped him through so many hard times, it was almost like a friend. And did he have any toys that were almost like friends, and he said, oh yes mommy. i know what you mean. my tag books.

current album: well, he's really into That's Not my Name by the Ting Tings at the moment. In fact, as we walked across Foster Beach this morning, he shouted it over and over again at the top of his lungs for all the other beach goers.

current film: He's actually, if you can believe it, not that hooked on any one movie at the moment. And that is cause for celebration in these parts! yeah for summer! yeah for tag books!

current shame-inducing guilty pleasure: um. ok, honestly. i often catch sam rubbing cut apple slices on his arms. i know. it was even weird to type it, let alone to watch it. i ask him why he is doing that and he says, i'm cleaning myself off, cause this is like a sponge. he knows he's not supposed to, but without fail, cut apple equals rubbing said apple on limbs.

current color: no preference for him here, i don't think.

They have a lot of games there, and the other day, he stumbled onto a Barney one and I sort of gasped and lunged at the computer because I abhor Barney so so so so much. I think I scared him a little. Which is all for the best if it means we won't get hooked on Barney in this house.

current fetish: well, if we're being honest about the apple slices ,we might as well be honest about the fetish. his current fetish would be, ahem, enjoying his own nakedness. is that diplomatic enough? sam enjoys being a boy. as well he should.

current songs: well. ting tings, as mentioned. he also likes Let's Get it Started by Black Eyed Peas and was super into Kanye's Stronger until I listened a little more carefully and nipped that one in the bud. Good for Mommy's running, but not good for kiddo to be singing to friends at show and tell.

current outfit: Red underpants and a green toy story shirt. Covered by his freshly washed blanket that Aunt Fern made for him.

current fragrance: Shampooy, suntan lotiony, beachy, sunny, sleepy boy.

current drink: it's actually more about the glass being used than the drink being consumed. and the needed glass changes on a pretty standard basis.

current wish list: to get a spongebob popsicle at the beach next time, to finish his curious george coloring sheet for dad, to see osage in kansas city, to go to grandma and papa's house, to swim in the pool at grandma jane and pawpaw's next week!!, to get more tag books at target, to find pennies to put into his pocket to put into his piggy bank.

current triumph: sounding out words, spelling out words, and writing letters. oh, my heart.

current bane of his existence: writing the letter W, the fear of henry ruining his current project, anyone splashing him with water for any reason whatsoever.

current celebrity crush: i think lotso from toy story 3 is up there. sam is taken with him. he says he's a good guy outside, but inside, he's a bad guy. which i think it pretty damn smart of him.

current indulgence: grown up board games. he is particularly into scrabble and monopoly.

current excitement: hm. well, i sort of hold off on telling him about fun things ahead because then he harasses me for ages. i made that mistake with toy story 3 and told him like 2 weeks ahead of time, and i swear to god, he was relentless. so, what his current excitement WILL be when i tell him on Friday is going to the Fair on Saturday afternoon. Rides and stuff!

current mood: Excited and happy with a chance of grumpiness and constant clouds of talkativeness.
