currents: sam

Hello. I owe you guys. I really really really do. I'm sorry. I had (and still do have) every intention of continuing to post here. I will try to do better. Thank you, all grandparents, for not giving me too much grief about my lack of posts. I know you guys have probably been missing these.

So, how about a couple of currents entries. I'll do Sam's first. Henry's to come in a couple days.

current books:
We just busted out all the Christmas books. We don't have that many, but enough that Sam was really thrilled to see them. Last night, Craig read him Snowmen at Night. And we have a Frosty the Snowman book that also plays the song when you open it that is a festive favorite.

current album: I just downloaded that Gwyneth Paltrow song from Glee. It's all over the radio. He was really mad the first time I played it. He had been promised a gumball from the gumball machine, but then I ended up not having a quarter or any money to make change for a quarter, so he didn't end up getting a gumball. So, the first time I played it for him, he was pouting big time. When it ended, I asked him what he thought and he said "I don't like it." To which I replied, "Look, Sam. I know that song is totally up your alley. I'm sorry you didn't get a gumball, but you got to Grandma and Papa's house. And decorate their tree. And play outside on a sled. You got to eat at McDonald's and get a toy. And you've basically had a really great day. If you want to pout over a gumball, that's your choice. But I think you ought to be grateful for all the awesome things you DO have and just decide to be happy. The only person you are making miserable here is yourself." He responded, "Ok. Play it for me again, and I'll see what I think." So I played it again, and the second time he loved it. We have had it on repeat for 2 days now. About 30 minutes after this conversation, out of nowhere, he said "I think Santa will still bring me toys. Even if I was being not so nice a while ago." And I replied, "I'm sure he will, dude."

current film: we are all about Sid the Science Kid at the moment. We watch it over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Sam recently called my mom and dad and woke them up from sleeping in to discuss antibodies. This was a Sid the Science Kid reference.

current shame-inducing guilty pleasure: He's been pretty whiny lately. He knows that he shouldn't, but I am so against the whine, I usually react to it straightaway. Which is why he employs it so much. It has power. The whine.

current color: He almost always chooses the purple crayon first.

current links: Every single morning of Sam's life begins with about 20 minutes of watching Monster Truck videos on You Tube.

current fetish: i think the fetish of the moment is lining up the monster trucks on the couch. it's sort of obsessive. As soon as he finishes the you tube videos, he transfers to the couch where he lines up all of his trucks. then he sits down to watch Sid with his trucks. If I try to move his trucks so I can sit down on the couch, it really rocks his world. He loves lining up his toys. He loved it long ago, and he loves it still.

current songs: The Glee song, as mentioned. He also loves p!nk's Dirty Little Freaks song. And Silent Night.

current outfit: Today he's in his loose fit jeans, his navy and sky blue striped sweatshirt, white socks and new snow boots, his navy jacket with a red hat, and his new very soft gloves (which he was proud to get on all by himself). But here's a photo of him on Thanksgiving dressed up as Michael P. Keaton.

current fragrance: Cold wintery air. Fruit snack breath, which isn't as gross as it sounds. Fabric softener.

current drink: Chocolate milk.

current wish list: to go to a monster truck rally, for Christmas to come quickly, to wear green ice skates this weekend when we attempt to go ice skating downtown at Millennium Park, to crack a nut in the nutcracker ornament that hangs on our tree, for Santa to remember him well on Christmas morning, to play video games with his Dad as much as humanly possible.

current triumph: being able to buckle his own seat belt without any assistance.

current bane of his existence: his brother snatching toys away from him, his brother touching the Christmas village or the ornaments on the tree, being told to nap when he doesn't want to.

current celebrity crush: sid. sid. sid. and maybe a little crush on gabriella (from sid)

current indulgence: yesterday, he ate a big rice krispy treat covered in chocolate with a sugar candy car on the front that he got from his Aunt Sara. He was in heaven over that thing. I've never seen him savor a treat for so long. It took him like 45 minutes to finish it.

current excitement: HELLO! Christmas!

current mood: content, silly, with infrequent moments of hysteria (positive and negative) brought on by being overtired.
