Current books: Henry has been favoring lift the flap books lately. There is one particularly loathsome one that he requests like 3 times a day. It has become redundant but he loves it. We are also huge library goers and have about 15 books checked out at a time. Current favorite of this group is Giraffe and a Half by Shel Silverstein.
Current film: Ironically, he has taken a liking to Elmo Potty Time. He refused to watch it while potty training, but, now that he is mostly trained, he seems to want to reflect on it via Elmo.
Current shame-inducing guilty pleasure: Ah. The scream. The blood curdling, brain piercing shrieking scream. He puts his screaming skills to use liberally these days. I think he just likes how shocked everyones faces get. So I am working on remaining very calm and simply carrying him back to his room and planting him inside it with a firm "no screaming." But it is difficult to behave so calmly when your child is behaving like someone is coming at him with an ax. It's funny to me to think of the behaviors we try out as children -- how it would be if we behaved similarly as adults. And it makes me laugh.
Current color: Well, um... ahem. Henry does not know his colors yet. He knows OF colors. Like he knows that red, blue, green, purple, yellow are all colors that exists. But he cannot discern them from one another at this time. And that is ok!!
Current links: Henry doesn't really play around online. But he does love when our screen saver pops up and will sit in front of the computer for 20 minutes at a time watching it. We have it set up to pull up family photos from our online albums.
Current fetish: He likes to get wet washrags and clean off the bottoms of all of his toys feet. He calls it painting.
Current songs: Whenever it is his choice to pick out the song in the car he always chooses SexyBack by Justin Timberlake which he simply calls Timmerwake.
Current outfit: Thomas the Tank Engine pajamas. A grey striped sweatshirt. Slippers that look like a duck wearing a fedora.
Current fragrance: Johnson's baby soap + maple syrup.
Current drink: Lemonade. He is a lemonade nut. And I mostly push it on him because listening to him say the word lemonade is delightful.
Current wish list: To play in the waterfall outside a subdivision that we pass on our way to the gym. He asks me every day if we can please please please put on our bathing suits and go swim in it.
Current triumph: He's still pretty jazzed about using the bathroom. He asks us to do the pee pee dance still when he's done. Which is us basically making up a song about peeing and then dancing around. He is very much a BY MYSELF kind of guy and does not want anyone to assist him with activities that he could possibly maybe do on his own. If you try to help Henry out when he doesn't want help, you may get the scream. But if you don't and allow him to ever so slowly finish the task, you are awarded with his brightest smile (which is pretty damn bright) and a very proud "I DID IT MAMA!"
Current bane of his existence: It might be going to bed. He has a huge bag of tricks to prolong bedtime. He is constantly seeing if he can dupe us into coming in to re-tuck him in. My favorite in his arsenal is his specific footwear needs. We are forever trying to determine whether he must or must not wear socks to bed and whether his blanket must or must not cover his feet while he sleeps.
Current crush: Last night, my friend from college came by for dinner. Henry was really taken with him and took to calling him Mr. Man. He would throw himself into his lap and say "give me a hug, Mr. Man."
Current indulgence: That kid drinks more than his fair share of chocolate milk. Despite his love for lemonade.
Current excitement: He is excited for all of the following things somewhere in the future: the ice cream social at Sam's school tonight, to go to the beach this summer, to ride on Dumbo at Disney World someday, to swim in a waterfall.
Current mood: playful, mischievous, affectionate, dramatic.
